Privacy, in plain words
Last updated 17 October 2026. This covers the waitlist, accounts, gift certificates and early-testing conversations.
What we collect
- Your email address and, if you give it, your first name.
- Who invited you, so we can move them up the line.
- A one-way scrambled version of your IP address, only to stop spam sign-ups. We never store the address itself.
- If you sign in with Google, your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We don’t get your Google password or access to anything else in your Google account.
- If you buy a gift certificate, your order details from Polar, our payment provider. We never see your card number.
What we do with it
We email you about your place in line and when Once Grandma opens. We don’t sell your data, and we don’t share it with advertisers.
Recorded conversations (early testing)
We’re testing conversations with a small group of storytellers. Nothing is recorded until the storyteller agrees, both on screen and out loud. We then keep their voice recording and a written transcript so the family can have them. During the conversation, Deepgram turns speech into text and the interviewer’s replies into speech, and Anthropic’s Claude decides what the interviewer says (for some languages, OpenAI’s voice service does all three). After each conversation, the written transcript is sent to Claude to draft the stories, which the family can then read and edit. We opt out of model training with every one of these services, and we never train models on them ourselves. You can ask us to delete any recording, transcript or story.
